I feel like October is a really inappropriate time to bring you the BEAR Flavors Sun eliquid review, but I’ve been vaping with this eliquid (sent by Vape Club) a little bit lately and figured it was probably about the right time to tell you all about it.
I’ll be honest and say that my mind changed with this one quite a bit. I don’t think I read the bottle properly when I picked it up the first time, and I mistook this one for another one — Koala — that doesn’t have cooling agent in it. This one — Sun — does. If you don’t know, I don’t like the stuff that much. A cooling agent eliquid would need to be a REALLY good one to encourage me to vape it on the regular. I’m just not about that menthol kick life.
If you prefer non-cooling agent eliquids, you’ll find all reviews for eliquids without it here.
About BEAR Flavors
BEAR Flavors were created by the guys behind VapeFindr, and it was Vape Club that originally sent me my little bear-themed parcel of goodness. Bizarrely, I haven’t found the BEAR Flavors eliquid on the VC website since I published the first review, but as I mentioned in my previous review (for Koala), you can still get your hands on this directly from the VapeFindr shop.
I don’t really want to go into too much detail with all the background information, because I’ve spoken about the brand quite extensively in previous reviews. I don’t want to bore you all and repeat myself.
Here’s what you need to know:
Five flavours on offer: Grizzly, Koala, Panda, Polar and Sun. Out of the five, Polar and Sun are the only ones that DO contain cooling agent. The rest do not.
They are 80/20 VG/PG — sub-ohm eliquid.
I received 4 x 10ml bottles of each, 3mg strength. I don’t seem to be able to find these anywhere now, but you can buy 50ml short-fill bottles from the VapeFindr website mentioned above.
BEAR Flavors Sun Eliquid Review
I was lured into a false of security with Sun, I feel. I mean, you don’t expect a name like “Sun” to have anything cool in it, do you? Certainly not cooling agent. I think I got confused between this one and Koala, but it wasn’t until after I’d poured Sun into my tank that I realised it wasn’t quite the Twister-tastic eliquid I thought it was. It was, in fact, just another of those cooling agent devils.
(I personally feel like Sun and Koala’s names AND colours should have been the other way around. Green is totally a cooling agent colour. Yellow? Not so much.)
“All the sweetness a bear could need with a fizz of sherbet for good measure son!”
The ingredients listed (in order) are: lemon, lime, orange, cooling agent.
I want to talk about the smell for a moment. It reminded me of something but I couldn’t work out what it was. It’s candy of some description, and something I used to eat when I was a kid. For about fifteen or twenty minutes, I just kept picking up the bottle of Sun and then putting it right back down again, taking a deep sniff each time. I can’t think of what candy it is and I can’t tell you how much that frustrates me. I did briefly toy with the idea that it might my those sherbet flying saucer things, but I’m not sure that’s right. I’ll get back to you if and when I figure out what I’m talking about.
Sun is nowhere near as cooling-agent’y as I thought it was going to be. In fact, there was such a subtle hint of it, it was barely there at all. It helps to bring that sherbet edge to the citrus fruit blend, but it’s not enough to be classed as a menthol-esque vape. Not in my opinion, anyway.
The taste itself isn’t as strong as the juice smells in the bottle, but it’s still packed with some good flavours. I can taste the orange, lime and lemon individually within the juice, but they don’t overpower each other. There’s not too much of one and not enough of another. It’s just a really good, citrusy blend, and one that is super refreshing for a hot summer’s day.
Throat Hit & Vapour
I don’t really like the menthol hit that comes with cooling agent eliquids. I find it really grabs me by the throat and then doesn’t let go. Nine times out of ten, cooling agent eliquids make me cough up a lung before I finally get used to them enough to vape them, but it wasn’t like that with BEAR Flavor’s Sun. I found the juice to be super smooth and easy on the throat, and actually a real delight to vape with.
BEAR Flavors Sun Eliquid Review — Conclusion
I can appreciate a decent cooling agent eliquid, but I tend to find that the bottles end up in a drawer or on the shelf, unloved and unused. After a while, I might give them away, but I don’t tend to vape them much after I’ve completed the review, always choosing the non-cooling agent ones.
BEAR Flavors Sun, on the other hand, didn’t end up on the shelf like the rest of them. Despite having that menthol edge to it, I really enjoyed it and reached for it quite a few times. It’s not my favourite of the BEAR Flavors range, but it’s definitely one I’ll remember for all the right reasons. It’ll be the one I tell people about when they’re looking for something refreshing, but without too much of a menthol hit. My favourite of the range is still Panda — the Jammie Dodger-esque treat.
Would I buy BEAR Flavors Sun eliquid again? Hmmmm. I think I would actually buy this one again when summer comes around because it really is beautifully refreshing. I kept expecting a heavy menthol hit that didn’t happen, and before I knew it, I’d finished the first 10ml bottle and was reaching for a second.
Would I recommend BEAR Flavors Sun eliquid to you? If you’re not sure whether or not you like cooling agent in your eliquid (new vapers), I’d definitely recommend this one to test the waters with. It’s there, but not there too much, and the citrus flavours are lush. Give it a shot — I reckon you might just like it!
