Koi Yuzu Lemon Meringue Eliquid Review

[AD – Gifted by E-cigarette Direct]  Well, folks, it’s time for my last review from this wonderful traditional Japanese desserts eliquid range. I’ve had Koi Yuzu Lemon Meringue eliquid in my tank for a while now, on and off, and it’s become one of those flavours I reach for on a regular basis. Much more so than I thought, anyway.

Grab yourself a cup of tea or coffee and get comfortable because I want to talk about lemony-stuff. Lovely, lovely lemony stuff.

ABOUT KOI

Koi is a range of eliquids created by US manufacturer, Element E-liquid. They’re all based on traditional Japanese desserts and alongside this one, you’ll also find the following three tasty treats:

The eliquids are all sub-ohm/high-VG eliquid — 80/20 VG/PG, although it doesn’t say that on the box or bottle.

£12.50 for a 50ml bottle with space to add a 10ml nicotine shot.

They’re also 0mg and do not come with nicotine shots. You need to buy those separately. The ones I used (also sent by E-cigarette Direct) were Plusnic Nicotine Boosters by Simple Vape Co, £1.99 each, 1.8% nicotine, 70/30 VG/PG. Throw one of those in, give it a good mix, and leave it to steep if you’re patient enough.

You’ll find all purchasing links at the bottom of this review.

I added my nicotine shot, gave it a good mix, and then left it on a shelf to steep for about three or four weeks before I vaped Koi Yuzu Lemon Meringue. I didn’t give it a try immediately after mixing, although I was tempted. It smells lush. L-u-u-u-u-s-h. These nicotine-shot based eliquids almost always taste better if you leave them to steep, though, in my experience. I wanted to get the best from this one because it really does smell that good.

I’ve vaped it in a number of devices, although I’m currently using the Vapefly Pixie RDA, 0.5-ohm coil, on top of the Vaporstorm Subverter box mod at 40 watts.

SMELL

Let’s just talk about the smell for a while, actually. It smells lemony, which is what you’d expect, but it smells really lemony — tart, tangy, and citrusy. I don’t personally think you can smell or get a sense of the meringue part of the flavour from the smell, but it still smells mouthwateringly good. There’s a hint of spiciness about it. Cinnamon, perhaps? Maybe pepper. It smells as though it could be a little peppery.

FLAVOUR DESCRIPTION:

“Aromatic, tart, and creamy blend with mile-high billowing meringue.”

Oh, it definitely smells aromatic … but does it taste that way?

TASTE

I’ve been really impressed with all of the Koi traditional Japanese dessert flavours but this one might just top the lot. Yuzu Lemon Meringue is the most flavoursome of them all. It’s actually packed with flavour, from start to finish, and it’s not one of those eliquids that tastes great in the first few puffs and then fades away to nothingness. I’ve vaped with this in the tank for days on end without getting bored of it.

You get a lot of sweet lemon on the inhale, but it’s quickly balanced out with the tartness of the citrus fruit. An actual flavour party happens when you get to the exhale. It’s madness. The lemon is still there, a mix of sweet and tart, but then there’s something else. It’s definitely spicy or peppery (I’m leaning more on the peppery side), but I can’t make out exactly what it is. It’s really nice, though. I’ll take some more of this one, please.

The flavour is one that I would class as warming — it’s perfect for days like today where it’s a bit chilly outside, there are some sprinklings of rain, and I’m happy as anything sat in my PJs, with the heating on. Thick, woolly socks too.

THROAT HIT & VAPOUR

Being 80/20 VG/PG eliquid, I expected Koi Yuzu Lemon Meringue to be on the thick n’ cloudy side, and I was not disappointed. Lots of clouds, plenty for tricks … not that I can do any. I have been practicing my vape O’s, though. I managed to do three in a row the other day, but now it seems I’ve forgotten how to do it again.

But yes, if you’re looking for a cloud-chucking juice, this is one to go for. I’d recommend the entire range of Koi traditional Japanese desserts — they throw out loads of vapour.

In the throat hit department, I found Yuzu Lemon Meringue to be just as expected for a 3mg high-VG eliquid. It was smooth on the throat, easy to vape, and considering it’s quite a thick, sweet eliquid, it didn’t clog up my coils too much.

KOI YUZU LEMON MERINGUE ELIQUID REVIEW – CONCLUSION

I very much enjoyed this eliquid flavour and had no trouble at all polishing off the entire bottle in just a few weeks. It was one of those flavours that I found myself reaching for time and time again, without getting bored of it or wishing for something else, and that makes it a really good one in my eyes. It’s quite rare that I want to vape with the same high-VG eliquid for more than a couple of tanks at a time, but it happened with this one.

Definitely lemony, but definitely different too, this will become something I recommend to people looking for rich, unique lemon-based eliquids.

WOULD I BUY KOI YUZU LEMON MERINGUE ELIQUID AGAIN?

Yep, without a doubt. I’d buy all four flavours from the range again. They’re delightfully rich, flavoursome, warming eliquids that I predict a few vapers are going to love this winter.

WOULD I RECOMMEND KOI YUZU LEMON MERINGUE ELIQUID TO YOU?

Are you bored of the same-old, same-old lemon flavours? You should give this one a try! The pepperyness makes it really unique, adding depth to something that I think has been done to death. It reminds me of another lemon eliquid I’ve tried – Lemon Cookie Dough by Sugar Pie Vapes – but with a richer, more booming flavour. Out of the two, I think this one might be the strongest.
